GQT - Passion Fruit, can I eat them?

I bought a Passiflora Edulis and it has loved the hot summer and has had lots of flowers and is fruiting as well now.

Does anyone know if the fruit is edible and will be tasty and do they go crinkly on the vine, as you see them in the shops? The fruit are smooth and orange just now.
